Rupert Moore – Elder
December 2025
Hi Rupert, How long have you been an Elder and what have you been doing since you took on the role?
I have been an Elder for over 4 years, and before that I was a Deacon for several years. I'm not exactly sure how many years I have now served in leadership in this church!
When and how did you become a Christian?
I became a Christian at 21:30 hours on August 9th 2000! Jo was regularly attending Sheddocksley Baptist Church in Aberdeen and we'd been married for a bit over a year. They had a mid-week service that Jo wanted to attend, there was nothing on the TV so I went with her. During that service I recognised that God was real, that I needed to start listening to Him, that the word was alive and powerful. I decided then to begin to trust in Jesus's promises and to follow his teaching.
How long have you been at BSBC and what was your Church background before coming to BSBC?
We moved to Bishop’s Stortford in 2014 and started coming to BSBC immediately. We'd moved here from Houston Texas where we had lived for 6 years or so. We were in Aberdeen for a decade before leaving for Houston and in both cities we were heavily involved in church. I did not grow up in church so my experience of it is all as an adult. I've had experience in many areas of service but the areas that get me most excited revolve around practical service opportunities for those in church and those outside.
What other roles have you occupied since joining BSBC?
I am currently an Elder with oversight of the Finance and Administration Team and the Pastoral Team. I was Deacon for social action before that.
Tell us a few interesting things about you…hobbies? Any other volunteer roles outside the Church?
I enjoy running and have done so since I was a teenager. I've never been the fastest but it does still offer me a stress release and a great way to stay fit. I've found woodworking over the last few years to be a creative opportunity. I have a lathe and have turned a few bowls and vases; it can be a frustrating hobby but sometimes the results are pretty good!
Is there anything we can pray about for you and/or your role?
There is a constant need for prayer support for all the Elders and the wider leadership team. It is a huge blessing to have Jamie and Keith to serve alongside and I am confident that God has brought us together for this period in the Church’s life to provide leadership and guidance as we search for a new minister. Prayer for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control would be very much needed and appropriate as we move forwards.
